Shunaid Qureshi – Chairman / President
Mr Shunaid Qureshi is one of the most prominent industrialists of Pakistan. He is currently the C.E.O/Managing Director of Al-Abbas Sugar Mills (public) Ltd., Chairman of Falcon-I(Pvt.) Ltd. and Director of Javedan Cement Company Ltd. He is also the founder of many successful companies including Al-Abbas Sugar Mills Ltd., Eye Television Network Ltd. and Falcon-I(Pvt.) Ltd. Under Mr Qureshi’s leadership, Al-Abbas Sugar Mills has become one of the most successful sugar companies in Pakistan. Thanks to his vision Eye Television Network Ltd. became first public listed television network and is the most watched entertainment channel in Pakistan. Mr Qureshi has also been responsible for making Falcon-I the fastest growing automobile tracking company in the country.

In the past Mr Qureshi has served as Chairman of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, where he lead the effort of defining the policy for Co-generation by sugar industry in Pakistan. Mr. Qureshi has also served twice as Chairman Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (Sindh Zone). He received his Bachelors in Industrial Engineering from Mehran University, Sindh where he earned first position and three Gold Medals.


Mr. Ashraf Qazi - Co-chairman
Ashraf Qazi is an entrepreneur and seasoned business executive. He is currently the president and CEO of Ciena Healthcare, a Michigan-based health care company that employs more than 4,500 persons.  Over the last two decades, Mr. Qazi has established and successfully operated numerous business ventures in healthcare and other sectors. In 1998, he established Ciena Healthcare, a multi-state company and a leading provider of skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. Additionally, he owns a medical management software company based in New York, Sequel Systems with back offices in Lahore, Pakistan.

In addition, he is a founder and Chairman of the Qazi Foundation, a family foundation registered as a 501(c)(3) organization in the United States and as a non-profit in Pakistan. The foundation pursues worthy and charitable causes in the areas of healthcare, education and micro-credit (Karze-Hassna) by working in conjunction with implementing partners such as “Akhuat” and “Helping Hands.”  Mr. Qazi is also a founder and Chairman of the Council on Pakistan Relations, an advocacy organization based in Washington, DC.

Mr. Qazi serves on the Board of Directors for Beverly Hills Academy School, a unique educational institution in Michigan. He is also a board member of Healthcare Association of Michigan (HCAM), an affiliate of American Healthcare Association (AHCA), a national trade association representing the nursing and rehabilitation facilities across the United States.  Mr. Qazi graduated from Daemen College in Amherst, NY, in 1990 with a degree in Physical Therapy.


Junaid Qurashi – Chief Executive Officer
Junaid Qurashi is a Chief Executive Officer of SSJD, an Al-Abbas Group company, focused on Energy projects on indigenous fuel source and renewable energy. Mr. Qurashi is a seasoned entrepreneur with 20 years of experience in founding and managing sustainable development, high-tech and real-estate development firms in California, USA. Mr. Qurashi has also worked in management position for large public companies, including EMC, VMware, Wyse Technologies and Phoenix Technologies. Currently, Mr. Qurashi holds a position of board of directors at M. Designs Architects and Green Learning Institute, a California based organization dedicated to sustainable policy creation and development. Mr. Qurashi holds an M.B.A from Santa Clara University, California and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from California State University, San Luis Obispo.


Ghazanfar Abbas: Vice President & Chief Geologist
Mr Abbas is one of the most senior and renowned geologists, with over 40 years of experience in Geological Survey, of Pakistan. Mr. Abbas served as the CEO of Al-Abbas Power Generation (Pvt.) Ltd. where he successfully led the team in discovering 250 million ton of coal in Badin, Sindh. Mr Abbas has authored over 50 publications including the most notable book on Metallogeny and Mineral Deposits of Pakistan. Prior to joining SSJD group, Mr Abbas was a Deputy Director General of Geological Survey of Pakistan. He was also the Project Director for the planning, execution and supervision of GSP-GOS project for Thar Bankable Feasibility. Mr Abbas has worked with many international organizations, such as USAID, Australian AID and CENTO.
Mr Abbas holds a Masters in Geology and B.Sc. Honors in Geology from the University of Karachi. Additionally, he has done specialization courses related to coal and other geological related subjects from University of Carbondale USA, AMF Adelaide Australia, and CENTO


Akhlaq Ullah – Vice President, Power and Energy
Mr Akhlaq Ullah is currently responsible for multiple power projects at SSJD/Al-Abbas, including 60MW power co-generation and 10 MW biomass power plant. He is currently serving as a COO of Al-Abbas Energy (Pvt) Ltd. Prior to joining Al-Abbas, Mr Akhlaq was the General Manager for Power Generation, Transmission and Grid Project. Prior to that, Mr Akhlaq was Chief Engineer of Generation Project and Private Power Cell at KESC. At KESC, Mr. Akhlaq has worked on 1260MW project at Bin Qasim Thermal Power Station, 125 MW Gas Turbine Power Station at SITE and 382 MW Thermal Power Station at Korangi. Mr. Akhlaq has also worked in United States on 400MW and 800MW mine-mouth coal-fired thermal power units. During his tenure at KESC Mr Akhlaq has executed 10 Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and commissioned two IIPs in KESC system. He has also been a member of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Committee on Private Power Projects.


Mr Karel Galuska , Executive Director, Power and Energy.
Mr Galuška holds vast experience in the energy sector, particularly in field design, project design, constructions and applications; and in investment areas in mainly power generation, Oil@Gas, petro chemistry, bio fuels, green energy (Wind WEC in Germany and Canada). He has worked as system designer for steam and gas turbines and steam-boiler and has in fact, held various positions during his career in the manufacturing concern from designer, project designer, assistant manager, principal to director general. He was director general of the machinery and engineering company First Brno which has been responsible for, and EPC contractor of, large investment projects like power stations in ČR Mělník 500 MW, and Iran-Sharn in Iran, as well as refinery oil in HOMS, Syria. He also played a role in power development in Cuba, Peru, Egypt and India to name just a few. During his tenure as technical and managing director of ČKD a number of major projects were undertaken under his guidance including ČKD sharing on revitalization of production of ethylene in Sumgait, Azerbaijan, and in Lisicansk, Russia; establishment of a few compressor stations in Russia and Ukraine; and construction of refinery oil in Ryazan, Russia, in Kirichi, Russia, and in Fergana, Uzbekistan; EPC investment supply for gas treatment plant in Mubarak, Uzbekistan; cleaning and separation of fumes; and setting-up of power station in Tatars.
